Provenance
Dhurries are commonly used as floor coverings in Indian homes. Dhurrie making in India dates back to the 17th century, when Afghani weavers were brought in to work in the royal ateliers. The unique flat-woven technique makes the rugs extremely durable, and the interlocking weave allows them to be reversible. Dhurries from different states of India feature different materials, patterns, and styles that are unique to their region. The bold geometric patterns on these St. Frank dhurrie rugs, woven by hand on traditional looms, reflect local tribal art.
