Provenance
This Guatemalan headdress, woven on a backstrap loom, features diamond shapes resembling the Venus Star and North Star along with zigzags reminiscent of the mountainous Aguacatan region from which the textile originates. An important piece of dress for Guatemalan women, the hair ribbon, or cinta, creates a halo-like form. When wrapped around the head, this halo protects the nahual spot _ a sacred point of access to one's animal spirit.
