Provenance
This box is created by woodwork artisans in the Philippines with our Lakai fabric by the yard, inspired by our iconic St. Frank Uzbek textile. The Lakai people are a sub-tribe of the Uzbek who did not embrace Islam and have instead maintained the traditions of mountain horsemen. The symbols of their vibrant, free-style embroidery reflect their ancient way of life. In the piece that inspired this fabric, for example, the star and hooked sun-disc motifs reference the Lakai practices of sun and fire worship. The all-over design, with dense embroidery, represents the free flowing energy characteristic of Lakai textiles.
