This vintage St. Frank piece was created in Uzbekistan. The Lakai people are a sub-tribe of the Uzbek who did not embrace Islam and maintain the traditions of mountain horseman. The abstract animal and vegetable symbols of their vibrant free-style embroidery often reflect their ancient way of life. The all-over design, with dense embroidery, shows off a free flowing energy characteristic of Lakai textiles.
