The textile is carefully applied to a flax linen substrate, which provides a border between the textile and frame. This piece is available in our lucite frame. Our signature gold St. Frank plate is featured in the bottom right-hand corner of each piece.

All orders placed after 2 PM PT will be processed on the next business day.

Provenance

This vintage St. Frank piece was created in Uzbekistan and consists of delicate silk embroidery on a silk-cotton blend backing. The Lakai people are a sub-tribe of the Uzbek who did not embrace Islam and maintain instead the traditions of mountain horsemen. The symbols of their vibrant free-style embroidery reflect their ancient way of life. In this piece, for example, the star and hooked sun-disc motifs reference the Lakai practices of sun and fire worship. The all-over design, with dense embroidery, shows off a free flowing energy characteristic of Lakai textiles.
