The Masai shuka is the signature clothing of the Masai people, pastoral nomads from the Serengeti plains of East Africa. They are famous both as warriors and as cattle herders. The Masai originally draped themselves with cowhide. However, in the late 19th century, Scottish missionaries introduced the tartan, which the Masai adapted as their own – thus, the shuka became their primary attire. The red background helped warriors blend in with the red dirt of the region. In addition, the pattern of the striping distinguished one tribe from another.

This tablecloth is 100% acrylic. Dimensions are 60" x 80". Our signature gold plate is featured in the right hand corner.
