Frankophiles, Christina here! I'm excited to welcome you into my Greenwich Village bachelorette pad. (You may have sneaked a peek in the latest issue of Domino.) I'll take you room by room through my design decisions and favorite finds. Good news is that you don't even have to conquer the stairs to my fourth floor walk up this way. Allez, viens!
My one bedroom rental is small, but cozy. Welcome chez moi! We'll start in my foyer. It's a small space with a vintage Turkish kilim on the floor and a rustic bookshelf filled with my collection of textiles (obvi), books, and curiosities. My Sally King Benedict x St. Frank tray from our 2017 collaboration is one of my favorite items here. Not pictured are these sconces flanking the door (all the changes I made to the space were superficial - paint, wallpaper, and light fixtures) and this print from my friends at Blockshop.
To the left is my bedroom and to the right is my living room (below). The walls and ceiling of my foyer and living room are coated in Farrow & Ball's Hague Blue in semi gloss (a little bit of the look of lacquer for way less). In the living room, I layered a Forsyth x St. Frank Ivory Cowhide on top of a simple sisal rug. I installed curtains in our Star Muong fabric and added these sconces. Above the fireplace I hung a photograph by my friend, talented Brooklyn based artist Rob Malmberg. I re-covered my curvey sofa, designed by SWAYSTUDIO, in a mustard mohair from Pierre Frey that complements the walls, and I filled it with our pillows - mud cloth, indigo, and Kuba.
In one corner, you'll find the real home essentials: my surfboard and bar cart! The bar, like any part of my home, combines function - hooch(!), coasters, matches - and art objects, including my Day of the Dead Skull. Cheers!
Off the living room, you'll find my itty bitty kitchen - so small, in fact, that it does not fit an oven. By now, you might have noticed that every surface of my home is covered in color. Because of this, color transitions are key to bringing the home cohesively together. I love this look into my kitchen and the surprising pop of aqua. I painted the walls Farrow & Ball's Green Blue to camouflage with the backsplash I inherited (and hated). I'm happy to report the result was a little jewel box. Once again, I chose a vintage kilim rug, this one with pastel colors that play off the walls.
In addition to our tabletop, I stocked my pantry with Staub x Goop's cookware, a Smeg toaster, and a hint of (my fave) Astier de Villatte.
Going back through the foyer, let's move into my bedroom. I wrapped the walls in our Terracotta Kuba Cloth wallpaper embracing my ultra femme. My desk is an antique Chinese piece passed down from my mom, and one of my favorite things I own. I am always happy to work here! And perch on a chair covered in our Adobe Box Mud Cloth fabric. I organize this space with one of our trays in Washed Indigo.
Once again, I installed curtains, this time in our Golden Maze Kuba Cloth fabric. I painted the trim Farrow & Ball's Salon Drab. I love how the pinks and browns play in this space to create a warm, earthy feel. The bed is from good old Restoration Hardware and covered in a sage velvet upon the insistence of my dear friend, designer Consuelo Pierrepont. I never would have picked this color on my own, but I love the oxidized brass sense it gives. The bed itself is layered with our textured linen Kantha quilt, our vintage Muong and Kuba Cloth pillows, and a gorgeous marbled silk pillow by my friend Paige Cleveland at Rule of Three.
I am not a morning person, but waking up is made a treat by stepping barefoot onto this lush sheepskin.
Yes, I'm spoiled by two working fireplaces in this little place. Above my bedroom mantel is a piece of antique Japanese wallpaper framed. The sconces are Kelly Wearstler for Circa and meant for the bath, but I love the element of glam they add here. Like both of my parents, I live surrounded by books. Pro tip: organize your shelves and stack of books by color for a curated effect.
Last, but not least, the crowing jewel of my abode: the closet. This lipstick hue is Farrow & Ball's Brinjal and such a treat to dress in daily.
